Jan. 19, 2010 - Dorel Asia has recalled 635,000 cribs because the drop-side hardware can fail, which allows the drop side to move away from the crib, creating a gap. A baby can become entrapped in that space, possibly resulting in strangulation. A second problem is the gap caused by damaged crib slats. The slat damage can happen during shipping, use or when the crib is stored and reassembled. One death was reported as a result of the hardware failure, and 31 additional hardware failures, including 6 incidents of entrapment, were also reported. Another 36 incidents of slats breaking were reported, including seven injuries. These cribs were sold from Jan. 2005 to Dec. 2009 at Wal-Mart, Sears and K-Mart.

Jan. 14, 2010 - About 1,000 Caramia Diane drop-side cribs are recalled because the slats can detach from the upper and lower crib rails. This could create a gap where a baby can become entrapped or fall from the crib. No injuries have been reported. These cribs were manufactured between Sept. 2002 and June 2004, and have a label with the manufacture date inside the headboard or footboard. If you own a Caramia Diane crib, stop using it immediately. Call 877-728-0342 or visit www.caramiafurniture.com for a free replacement drop-side (not available until March 2010).

Jan. 8, 2010 - More than 200,000 Big Rex & Friends cloth books from St. Martin's Press are recalled because a red plastic dot sewn to the book contains high levels of lead. The book has a black and white striped border with a red dinosaur on the front, and ISBN 031249260X or 9780312492601 is on the back. Take the book away from children immediately.

You can call 800-347-9411 or visit www.priddybooks.com/recall for return and refund instructions.

Dec. 30, 2009 - More than 200,000 play yards with bassinets from Dorel Juvenile Group are recalled because the metal support bar for the bassinet can come out of its fabric sleeve, creating an uneven sleep surface. The uneven surface poses a risk of suffocation or positional asphyxiation. The Safety 1st Disney Care Center and Eddie Bauer Complete Care play yards are both included in this recall. Both were sold with the bassinet attachment, as well as a built-in changing table. Affected models are 05025, 05026, 05037, 05088 and 05350. You can find the model number on a sticker on one of the play yard legs.

Stop using the bassinet attachment and call 866-762-2166 or visit www.djgusa.com to order a free bassinet repair kit.

Dec. 8, 2009 - About 66,000 cake toys that are part of the Evenflo Exersaucer 1-2-3 Tea for Me activity centers are recalled because the candle flame on top of the cake toy can come off, posing a choking hazard. Affected models are 6161834 and 6161920, and the model number can be found on a label on the underside of the base. They were sold between Dec. 2007 and Mar. 2009.

Stop using the cake toy and call 800-233-5921 or visit www.safety.evenflo.com for a replacement toy.

Nov. 23, 2009 - More than 2.1 million Stork Craft cribs in the U.S. and Canada are recalled because problems with the drop sides can result in entrapment or suffocation. The plastic drop side hardware can break, become deformed or go missing, or the drop sides could be installed upside down, leading to additional hardware problems. All of these issues can lead to the drop side detaching from the crib in one corner, which creates space between the crib and the mattress, which poses an entrapment and suffocation risk. If the drop sides come off entirely, children can fall from the crib. According to CPSC, there have been 15 reports of entrapment in these cribs, including four infants who suffocated. Twenty falls from the crib have also been reported. About 1.2 million cribs in the U.S. and 968,000 cribs in Canada are affected by this recall, including some that are Fisher Price branded. All Stork Craft drop-side cribs manufactured between Jan. 1993 and Oct. 2009 with plastic trigger and one-hand-system drop-side hardware are recalled. Also included in this recall are Fisher Price brand drop-side cribs manufactured between Oct. 1997 and Dec. 2004. The manufacturer name and date can be found on the assembly instruction sheet, which is attached to the mattress support board. You should stop using these cribs immediately and find an alternate sleeping environment for your baby until you receive and install the free repair kit. You can order the repair kit by calling 877-274-0277 or visiting www.storkcraft.com.

Toddler Hooded Kimono Robe by Bamboobino sold from November 2008 to November 2009.
Health Canada has established that this product does not meet the flammability requirements for children's sleepwear under Canadian law. Loose-fitting children's sleepwear, including robes, can contact ignition sources such as stove elements, candles, and matches more readily than tight-fitting sleepwear. When loose-fitting sleepwear is made with natural fibres such as cotton or rayon from bamboo, they can burn rapidly, potentially resulting in severe burns to large areas of the child's body. Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries as related to the use of this robe.

Consumers are advised not to let their children wear the recalled robe and to return it to the place where it was purchased for a refund. If the product was purchased online or at a trade show, consumers should contact Bamboobino directly.

For more information, consumers may contact Bamboobino by e-mail at
